Two Decades of Jan Taminiau: Crafting Dreams, One Stitch at a Time
It all began in 2003, with a vision to create garments that tell stories—pieces that
capture emotion, memory, and elegance. What started as an ambitious dream soon
turned into a journey that would leave its mark on the world of fashion, art, and beyond.
In 2009, everything changed when Queen Máxima of the Netherlands wore
Jan’s Post Bag Jacket for the first time. Made from recycled postal bags, it became
a symbol of the brand’s philosophy: honoring craftsmanship, sustainability, and the
beauty of objects with a story. The Post Bag Jacket, now an icon of the house, stands
for everything Jan believes in—loving something that carries its own life and history.
Our story is shaped by artists across time and disciplines
In 2011, Jan’s work captivated the world stage when Beyoncé chose the shimmering silver “Irradiance” shoes for the cover of her album 4, blending high fashion with pop culture. Around the same time, Lady Gaga embraced Jan’s avant-garde designs, wearing pieces from the Reflections and Poetic Clash collections in music videos, performances, and iconic appearances.

In 2013, Jan created a historic moment with Queen Máxima’s coronation gown—a regal blue masterpiece worn during her husband’s inauguration as King Willem-Alexander. The gown became a defining moment in Jan’s career and Dutch history.
As his reputation for blending tradition and bold vision grew, Jan received the Grand Seigneur Prize in 2014, celebrating his leadership in fashion innovation. But his creativity didn’t stop at the runway—it extended into the world of performing arts.

In 2020, Jan collaborated with the Dutch National Opera on the production of Ritratto, an opera that tells the story of Luisa Casati, a woman who lived as both a muse and a work of art herself.
The costumes, rich with embellishment and theatrical flair, were inspired by Casati’s lavish and eccentric persona. Jan’s designs played a key role in bringing her world to life, making the opera a spectacle of fashion, drama, and fantasy.
In 2016, Jan also worked with the Dutch National Ballet on Transatlantic, creating couture-inspired costumes that enhanced the dancers' movements and captured the fluidity of performance.
In 2018, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht celebrated Jan’s creative evolution with a major retrospective exhibition. Two decades of iconic dresses, stage costumes, and key collaborations showcased the breadth of his artistry and craftsmanship.

Jan’s designs have traveled across the globe, gracing major showcases like the Fondation Cartier in Paris and starring in the blockbuster film The Hunger Games. As his career continued to flourish, Jan took the next step in his creative journey by moving to Spain. Surrounded by new inspiration, he continues to create, blending his signature aesthetic with the warmth and vibrancy of his new home.
Through every creation—whether on stage, screen, or runway—Jan’s vision remains constant: to craft pieces that tell stories, evoke emotion, and leave lasting memories.
